The Topic: People interacting with technology.
The Assignment: to get some experience with observation techniques
of data gathering (unobtrusive/participant observation). The Location:
Portal One video arcade at the Metreon in downtown San Francisco. The
Groups: The Media Research and New Communication Technologies classes
at Menlo College's Mass Communication Department. The Result: A successful
data collection experience and personal experience with games as the point
of introduction for many new technologies . . . and some fun with virtual
bowling, dancing, and space flight.
